Winter Moon copyright 2005 by Harlequin Books S.A., Worldwide Library, 213 Broadway, New York, NY 10279. ISBN 978-0-373-80302-6, Moontide copyright 2005 by Mercedes Lackey, The Heart of the Moon copyright 2005 by Tanith Lee, Banshee Cries copyright 2005 by Catherine Murphy
I really enjoyed this collection of three stories, titled Winter Moon. The three novellas that make up Winter Moon are Moontide by Mercedes Lackey, The Heart of the Moon by Tanith Lee and Banshee Cries by Catherine Murphy. All three had varying touches of fantasy. In some cases only a few characters or situations were truly magical, but in others nearly the entire story was fantasy. All three of the novellas were very interesting.
I liked the fact that none of the novellas felt as though they were being rushed. All three moved at a slow and natural pace toward their conclusion. They all presented a cast of strong, well-rounded characters as well as plenty of supporting characters. All three were tastefully written, being true romances, not sex stories, which happens far too often with the so-called romance novels of today. I have immense respect for the authors because of the way they handled their presentation of the love stories and would gladly read anything written by them again. I have, in fact, ordered books by two of the authors to read in the future.
Because this book is a collection of three novellas I’m not going to quote any of them because of my policy of not showing preference to an individual story, novel, novella or piece in a collection or anthology. I do highly recommend you read Winter Moon for yourself.
